Why Wiccans must be politically active

I have a great quote from Amber Laine Fisher's Philosophy of Wicca:

Wiccans have an obligation to manifest the Goddess in all Her many forms, and when we choose not to do this, when we make the conscious decision to sit and do nohting, we are allowing harm to exist, and therefore we are responsible for that harm. Inaction can be as brutal as action.
(Emphasis added)

Men created common religion because they were jealous of women's mysteries?

I really do wonder if "common religion" basically became the sphere of men not because women were excluded initially, but because women's experiences created something special that men simply could not ever relate to, and in effect excluded men. In reaction, men created situations in which, as outsiders, they'd poorly mimic women's mysteries, in order to connect with the larger Existence... After generations, as society becomes more "patriarchal," what is "men's religion" becomes instituted as common religion and snowballs from there...?

I suggested in my Gender and Spirituality class that this might have something to do with altered consciousness during menses (as I remember my experience when I had crippling cramps and I'd suffer dehydration because I'd even throw up water, let alone food!) Most types of shamanic "vision quests" or whatever seem to mimic this-- cuts to bleed without dying, abstainence from food/water, seclusion, etc, in order to reach an altered state of consciousness. I remember the years my cycle was like this as also a very spiritually influential time... not just in an "oh god make this stop" sort of way, but really, every couple weeks, my life STOPPED whether I wanted it to or not, and I was confronted with this important event in the cycle of life. It made me evaluate my connection in regards to the cycle of life in general, and not just my own experience.

Your Element is Fire

Your power color: red

Your energy: hot

Like a fire, you are full of power and light.
A born leader, you easily draw people toward you.
You are full of courage and usually up for anything dangerous.
You have a huge ego and love to be the center of attention.

Patriarchy in a skirt?

Yea, I'm punking out with this post by just reposting a comment I made on Athana's blog, but really, this is an immensely important issue for me:

>>Disagreeable goddesses always seem to be "patriarchal makeovers" instead of bitches with the right to be bitches. If female deity is icky acting, there seems to be a feminist reflex to explain why she is not nurturing and lovey-- ironically, just the way "patriarchy" has defined femininity. Why the hell are feminists apologizing for this? Nature based paths realize that nature has elements of destruction and devastation in order for newness to appear, so why are we apologizing away our female deities that encompass that role?

For some reason, only gods have the right to be bitches, organically? That's the way of thinking that makes "matriarchy" look like "patriarchy in a skirt," by arbitrarily demonizing those in official power by a simple-minded role reversal. (God in power with Goddess demonized, bad. Goddess in power and God demonized, good? That's a little silly.)

Also, what if gods were also made over by the "patriarchy?" I don't think I've heard that argument made too often by feminists.<<

Eye of Ra...

I have to say, Goddess works in mysterious ways. Once you accept that, and let go with both hands, She just takes care of you. Honestly, I know I sound like the pagan equivalent of a Born Again sometimes, but I do accept that unfortunate comparison. We often use similar logic and vocabulary, we just draw drastically different conclusions...

But anyway, back to me and my Goddess. I chose to name this new blog Eye of Ra in honor of my relatively new patron Hathor. The "inspiration" to work with Hathor came to me in a dream, or as I'd like to frame it, Hathor revealed Herself to me in a dream while I was crashing on Kate's couch this summer. The title Eye of Ra alludes to the idea that impeccable Focus is a major characteristic of Hathor's. Given my OCD and penchant for anxiety, this seemed to be a wonderful match, and has truly proven so!

With luck and the will of the Goddess, I'll even make it to Europe after graduation this May! Only 26 weeks to go!

New Blog

Sitting on a comfy-squishy couch in the DCC, I thought to myself, "time for a new blog." So much has been happening lately in my intellectual life, I miss this outlet. This time however, I'm not letting other people's stubbornness get me down...

Meh, I promise to have a real post later, must get dressed for class. They don't like us going naked. Even if it is a Theater class...
